1. Set the main function
Every living room may serve different function. It us up to you to decide. Focus on what function you want to show, and put related furniture on it. For example, if you want it to be a nice and comfortable for enjoying the weather and nature, then you might need to give it fireplace and large window. On the other hand, if you want to use it as a room you can use to spend your time with your family, then you might need to put television, or bookshelves.
2. Mind the traffic low
In living room, people must be walking here and there. For that reason, you need to mind about the traffic in that room. Do not put your furniture too close each other as it may disturb your walk. Even though you want to put many things there, make sure that it there is enough area for a person to walk comfortable through it. It is also recommended not to put all the furniture near the wall. Put it close together and you will get more intimate setting.
3. Set your sofa and chairs
In all living rooms, the existence of seating whether it is sofa, hairs, couches or sectional is very important. Well, setting up the placement of seating serves big change to a living room. Therefore, you need to measure the space you have before putting it in. Sketching it on a paper using the scale of actual measurement is also a good option to make sure you are not going in a wrong way. Try different seating position as well to see which one can give the best look for every corner as it will affect your living room size.
Related to the size, rug also plays a great role combined with seating. Sometimes, people choose a small rug because they think the large one will make the living room look so full. This idea is a not so right. You need to make sure that all furniture can sit on the carpet. If not, then make sure that the front legs of any large upholstered stays on the rug.
4. Coffee table
As living room is a place to enjoy leisure time with your family or guest, placing a table is truly needed. One thing you should remember is the height. It should be slightly lower to the seating around it for more comfortable use when taking or putting drinks and snacks. However, this functioned can be replaced by side tables as well if you are not a big fan of coffee table. You can vary the number, at least there is one on each side of the sofa. Besides coffee table, you can also fill this position with small table or benches.
